Before buying a fully rugged Windows tablet, it is essential to find the perfect device for your specific work needs. It is important to take into account the harshness of the environment in which this tablet will be used. Additionally, it must have the processing power to handle the job at hand.
It is essential to confirm that the tablet's processor, memory, and storage meet the requirements for your applications to run efficiently. While typically meeting the minimum requirements is enough to run most applications, we highly advise picking a tablet that exceeds these specs for the best possible performance. Not only will the program perform better, but there is a better chance that future application versions will continue to work if their requirements increase.
We’ll compare two of the most well-known rugged tablets, the Panasonic Toughpad FZ-G1 and the Getac F110.
Size Difference Between FZ-G1 and F110
The first, and most noticeable difference between the FZ-G1 and the F110 is their difference in size. The FZ-G1 has a 10.1-inch touchscreen, while the F110 has a 11.6-inch touchscreen. The Getac, the larger tablet, also weighs more than the FZ-G1 at 3.3 lbs. It outweighs its competitor, which weighs 2.5 lbs. Some people may prefer the larger screen of the F110, but others may find the lighter-weight tablet more beneficial.
Specifications of the FZ-G1 Toughpad
The Panasonic Toughpad G1 hosts a variety of Intel Core i5 processors between their many MKs, making them easily compatible with Windows 10. The newer models are even capable of supporting Windows 11. Panasonic released five different versions of these tablets. Depending on the model, they may come standard with a 128GB SSD for the earlier versions or a 256GB SSD for the later generations. Most versions come with 8GB of RAM, which is not upgradeable as it is soldered onto the system board. Since you can’t upgrade, the RAM must find a unit with the desired installed memory to get more RAM.
Neither tablet has an exceptional amount of available ports installed on them. They come standard with a single USB port, HDMI, headphone jack, and docking connector. There are a few available upgrade options that slightly extend the array of available ports. Still, they aren’t found on all FZ-G1’s and F110’s.
Surprisingly, many features can be upgraded on the FZ-G1 even though it is a tablet. These features include a smartcard reader, bridge battery, and an option for an extra USB port, a NIC, a barcode reader, or a GPS. On top of that, there is also an extended battery for longer battery life. All the FZ-G1’s we sell come with a carrying strap and a digital stylus, too!
Getac F110 Rugged Tablet Features
The Getac F110 comes with either an Intel Core i5 or i7 processor installed with 8GB or 16GB of RAM. Unlike the FZ-G1, the F110’s RAM is not soldered onto its motherboard and is replaceable. It may not necessarily be easy to replace, but it can be done. In terms of storage space, the F110 usually comes with a 128GB M.2 SSD or, in later generations, a 256GB M.2 SSD.
This unit includes an array of useful ports, including a USB port, HDMI, and an audio port. The tablet has two battery slots, providing extended battery life and the ability to hot-swap between multiple batteries. Additionally, the F110 can come installed with several optional features such as a barcode reader, HF RFID reader, or a smartcard reader.
How Do They Compare?
The FZ-G1 and the F110 are fully rugged tablets, built with rubber corner bumpers and a sturdy touchscreen surrounded by a solid frame. They come equipped with high-definition webcams and rear cameras, as well as plenty of optional features that expand the usability of the tablet. The FZ-G1 is slightly smaller than the F110, but this makes it by no means inferior. Both tablets can hold their own against most dusts, liquids, drops, shocks, and vibrations along with a myriad of other things.
